Why Pre-Employment Investigations?The cost of hiring and training an employee to function in today’s competitive job market often requires that you know information about the prospective employee that he may or may not be willing to share with you. It is essential to not only verify the information contained on the employment application, but to research their background.

Screening job applicants and investigating employees can save your company time and money while providing valuable insight into an individual’s work ethic, interpersonal skills and job-related abilities. Your potential applicant may be a convicted felon, on parole, or have a criminal history which may jeopardize the safety and security of your company or other employees. Your applicant may have a history of theft, fraud, destructive behavior, violence, embezzlement, assault, criminal negligence, alcohol or drug abuse, or worse.

Items researched should be the prospective employee’s prior employment, financial and criminal history. A more aggressive screening process can then be used for a higher-level employee, entailing credit history, federal records search, and a broader range search for civil and criminal records. Education, professional licensing and other credentials can also be verified.
