Monitor your creditOrder a credit report at least once a year from the three major credit reporting agencies and check for accuracy and indications of fraud. Call your creditors if bills or replacement cards don’t arrive on time. Pare down your walletDon’t routinely carry rarely used credit cards or extra ID’s, including your Social Security Card, birth certificate, or passport. Don’t keep passwords or PIN numbers that someone can find in your wallet. Guard your mailIf you suspect mail theft, get a lockable mailbox or rent a Post Office box. Mail envelopes with checks, credit-card numbers, or ID information directly from the Post Office. Take it with youAlways take credit card, debit card and ATM receipts with you. Never throw them in a public trash container. Tear them up or shred them at home when you no longer need them. Shred, shred, shredBuy a shredder so personal information doesn’t go out with the trash. Shred receipts, credit applications, cancelled checks and bank statements. Credit Links
